I'm told that Hogan's contract in Indy wasn't up. Rather, GM Chris Ballard let him go, because it represented a move up for Rex. Class move by Ballard.

This is a promotion for Hogan, who was No. 3 in Indy’s power structure. Now he’ll be No. 2. Very well-respected in the scouting community.
