In no particular order:
1) i like Grover, but I’d love to add a big hulking DT to the roster and line him up next to Buckner; a guy who absorbs double teams, sheds blockers, and stuffs the run at the line. Someone like Ndamukong Suh or the Goose. 2) tough nosed, sideline to sideline Linebacker; someone equally adept at covering a Linebacker and coming up to blow up the run. 3) a reliable, better than serviceable Corner. In Ward, Anarumo has the guy who can take away half the field. Now, what he needs is someone who can be part of an effective scheme that turns an opponent’s second best receiver into a non factor. 4) the Colts pass rush is on pace to pick up 45 sacks, this season, and that’s a respectable number. But, what they don’t have, what they haven’t turned Latu or Paye into, is a Micah Parsons/Myles Garrettt type of intimidating presence who terrorizes opposing Quarterbacks. Going forward, my hope is that we have a solution at Corner in Justin Walley, who’s sitting on IR. On the edge, Trey Hendrickson seems destined to hit free agency, and ex Bengal players seem to love playing for Anarumo. If I were Steichen, I’d give the sputtering Bengals a good draft pick for him, then bite whatever bullet I need to in the offseason to extend his contract. On some level, drafting 30th, 31st, or 32nd is great. It means you had a great year, the fans are happy, talking heads like Kevin Bowen aren’t calling for your head, and season ticket sales are through the roof. On the other hand, if you’re a GM looking to add premium talent, it sucks. My personal plan would be to target the best DT or LB I could find in the 1st, trade up in the 2nd if there’s anyone I like at the position I didn’t nab in the 1st; and, all the while, beat the bushes in free agency, looking for guys with something left in the tank who are more interested in adding a ring at the end of their careers than hitting the jackpot with one last contract. |
