Default Anthony Richardson splitting first-team quarterback snaps with Gardner Minshew

INDIANAPOLIS — Rookie Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is sharing first-team snaps with Gardner Minshew during the team’s spring practices.

Richardson took first-team snaps during both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 work during Thursday’s organized team activity, sharing time with Minshew, the veteran who was signed to be the Colts’ backup and potential starter if the team is need of a placeholder.

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said the plan has always been to split first-team snaps between the two quarterbacks, a practice that isn’t unanimous. According to reports, the No. 2 pick of the draft, Houston’s C.J. Stroud, is not taking first-team snaps yet, playing behind Davis Mills; Carolina recently gave No. 1 pick Bryce Young first-team snaps despite the presence of Andy Dalton.

According to Steichen, the plan is to continue splitting first-team repetitions between Richardson and Minshew throughout the spring.
Isnt it a little early to prime the pump for hype to start Richardson?
