Because if they keep him, Wentz is just going to feel like they only kept him because there was no better option...the relationship with Wentz is being destroyed with these non committal comments !!!

They either know they are not keeping him and just won't say, or they are being very foolish with these comments that serve no purpose in my opinion, and will only hurt their relationship with Wentz in the future !!!

I understand what you are saying, but there is another side to that coin.

Different players react differently to the same method of criticism ...... Jimmy Johnson once pointed out that some players need a kick in the rear-end when they play badly, but that other players do not respond positively to that kind of thing. Those other players need an encouraging pat on the back, and the reassurance that they are capable of playing better and to not let a bad play (or a few bad plays) undermine their capabilities and their potential.

By some accounts, Wentz appears to be the kind of guy that is (at least somewhat) conceited and thinks that he is playing better than his critics assert that he is. His strong stance on not wanting to get vaccinated seems to (at least partly) exhibit that kind of attitude ...... so, perhaps he may be the kind of player that needs someone to point out his failures and to question his ability to come through in crunch time. Maybe he needs to have the challenge of "proving his doubters wrong" thrown in his face. And if you think about it, the Colts have very little to lose in taking the risk of treating him that way ...... after all, they are only stuck with him for one more year at the most, so it's not like they have to worry about him and his feelings long-term. So ultimately, even if he confronts Irsay, Ballard, and Reich because of their obvious lack of faith in him, they can simply say "Look man, if you don't like the way that we treated you in the press, go out and prove us all wrong by having a kick-ass season. You're still our starting quarterback, so our actions of keeping you here and keeping you on the field speak louder than any words of doubt that we put out there in the press in the off-season."
