Default $37 Million in perspective

It’s a lot of money, an obscene amount. But, if you’re not willing to pay it, you should cash in your chips as an NFL owner and open a Domino’s franchise. Guys who hand toss pizza, no matter how good they are at it, can be had for comparative pocket change.

Jones’s $37 Million cap hit lands him in 13th place among Quarterbacks. My guess is that he wants and deserves more than that. My guess is that he ends up with a contract a lot closer to $50 Million in average annual value. My guess is that, in 4 years, we’ll look back at $37 Million with fondness.

I would agree if there was no cap. We still have to work within the cap.

Small sample size from a guy coming off an injury and has already received a big contract with which his performance flopped afterwards. Expecting this guy to stay healthy and perform at that level is insanity in my opinion

Fill your glass up just a little. And relax and not think the worst of everything.

I definitely don’t think the worst of everything

I like that Pierce was signed, and I understand somehow him and Jones became a package deal

Jones resume and injury history are cause for concern if I’m being a realist

The annual salary is of course a major issue, but the duration and structure are probably more important IMO. No way do I tie the franchise to DJ for 3-4 year at 40- 50 mil unless the structure allows for easy escapes. He’s never played a full season and has had a total of a season and a half of above average play. The team doesn’t have many options but to pay him this season. I’d make him play on the tag before I’d give him 50 mil with big guarantees.

One, as you said - it was 10 games.

Two, the injuries happen a lot for DJ. It’s a very valid concern just as it was with AR. But DJ has significantly mores seasons of it, enough to know it’s not just bad luck. And he’s coming off one of the more difficult injuries for an athlete to recover from.

Three, the offense (and DJ in particular) were showing areas of concern even before the injury. DJ had seven turnovers in games 9 and 10. He looked like Giants DJ. That is concerning as well.

I think the injury came earlier than reported. This franchise has been known to hide injuries before.

Could’ve been but with that being said we got to see what he looks like as an immobile pocket passer and it wasn’t good.
