1) There’s a lot to like about the Colt’s WR Corps. Pittman is a legit 100 catch guy, Downs is a weapon in the slot, and Pierce does a nice job stretching the field. What’s missing, though, is a true blue chip, impose his will on a Defense, type of Receiver who’s a threat to break the back of a Defense on any given play; a Justin Jefferson, a Tyreek Hill, a Jamaar Chase. Chris Ballard drafted AD Mitchell to be that guy and, maybe, someday, it’ll work out. But, until he does…
2) The next position is a tough one to evaluate. I like both Grover Stewart and DeForest Buckner, and when they’re both on the field with each other, the Colts have one of the strongest DT combo’s in the league. The biggest problem is that they’re reaching the age and stage in their careers when they don’t see the field on every down. In a perfect world, I’d love to add a true Monster of the Midway type, someone who dominates against the run and collapses the pocket; a clone of Dexter Lawrence or Quinnen Williams or Aaron Donald. 3) No one has greater admiration than me for Jonathan Taylor. He’s an elite RB. But, he can’t carry the rock 25 or 30 times a game and emerge intact. We need to find a high quality RB who can come in, spell him, and generate yards; someone who does’t create a black hole in the running game every time Taylor steps off the field. With any luck, whomever they find might be able to do a credible job catching the ball out of the backfield and picking up a blitzing Safety. 4) I guess you can color me tired of waiting for Jelani Woods to fulfill his immense potential. I like Mo Alie-Cox, but he’s going to be a 31 year old free agent whose potential always exceeded his production. Ogletree, Granson, and Mallory each bring tools to the table, but the path to Super Bowl Sunday is a lot easier if it’s paved by the likes of a Rob Gronkowski, a George Kittle, or a Travis Kelce. In a world where a Tight End is a Quarterback’s best friend, all we have are acquaintances. 5) Putting Corner at the end of this list is in no way a reflection of how I see the need at the position. Watching Receivers run free, uncovered, and catching the ball when no defender seems to be, even, in the same frame horrifies and exhausts me. I’m tired of watching journeyman Quarterbacks complete 30 of 32 passes for 350 yards. I watch opposing Defenses blanket Michael Pittman and knock balls away before our Receivers secure the ball, so I know it can be done. I just wish I knew whether we’re playing next zipcode coverage because Gus Bradley has no confidence in the talent that’s available; are we seeing fundamental breakdowns in communication, or is that simply the style he prefers? If he had Deion Sanders, would he still be playing a soft zone? Filling all those needs in a single year may be well nigh impossible, especially given Ballard’s aversion to first day free agency and the uncertainty that swirls around the most important position on the field, the position that in the words of Albus Dumbledore, cannot be spoken. But, at the very least, we can take a stab at putting a sizable dent in that list of needs. |

My needs in exact order:
- New GM - New DC - Young and effective QB - CB - TE - S (Cross is a great tackler, Cross in coverage, particularly in any situation where he has to read the route and react- is a disaster!) |

JT can only do 1 of these things well. Hell, I consider Addai more of a complete RB. |

New HC (Shane has regressed and been awful this year) New DC (obvious) New, young QB (or just play AR and find out FFS) RB (JT is overpaid, can't block or catch, has fumble issues, and is injury prone) CB (obvious) TE (or try to get something out of them, anyway) K (Gay is overpaid and unreliable) Can't do anything about the owner 🤷🏻

Steichen, I'm still holding out some fractional level of hope that he is the guy but that hope is rapidly declining! |
