Before today I was of the school of thought that you let Pagano finish
out the season and then make the change. That's generally how stable
franchises do it. But today was a watershed moment. It's one thing
not to be able to make adjustments, to be unable to instill discipline,
to not understand the proper use of timeouts and challenges; but it is quite
another thing when you lose the team, when you cannot field a competitive
team. Pagano has to go now, with the full knowledge that the interim
coach wont fare much better record wise. There has to be accountability
and the stench of incompetence has to be at least ameliorated.
Does Irsay have the guts to do it? He's blown up the ship in '97 and
2011 so I'd say he does. He does seem to have some attachment to
Pagano though and that could be a factor.
