Coach Mudd had some setbacks the last 48 hours. Hopefully his condition stabilizes and improves over the next few days.

From Shirley:

In the last 48 hours there have been some challenging developments. The right side of his heart is struggling and is dilated. The doctors have found one substantial pulmonary blood clot which they think is contributing to the issue. They have him on medications to support his heart and his blood pressure, but they’re continuing to see issues. The doctors suspect that he is also experiencing fatty emboli syndrome, which is another factor contributing to the strain on his heart. The fatty emboli are caused by the broken bones (pelvis, ribs, back). The doctors are trying different combinations of medications and other fluids and they really are turning over every possible rock to try to put together a combination that will improve the situation. It is very important that this situation improve within the next couple of days. We ask for your prayers and well wishes to heal his heart and resolve the blood clot and any fatty emboli in his lungs.

In the same 48 hours, he has suffered another setback. This one is related to his responsiveness. He is not consistently responding to commands. This is a dramatic change from Sunday. The doctors have ruled out any strokes or seizures as the cause. They presently believe the fatty emboli are causing blockages in his brain. He also is in a state of delirium, which comes and goes. We ask for your prayers and well wishes that any fatty emboli in his brain are resolved and that the situation improves so that we can connect with him cognitively.

He remains on continuous dialysis for his kidneys, but they have had to step back their effort to pull fluid out of him because it is stressing his heart. At this point, he is not stable enough for surgery on his back or pelvis. Again, we ask that the focus of your prayers and wishes be towards healing his heart and brain.

As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time and we ask that you please respect that we cannot answer any questions.

We love each and every one of you and appreciate the prayers and positive energy you are sending to Howard and to our family.
