The franchise now known as the Kansas City Chiefs started out as the Dallas Texans, in 1960.

In 1962, The Texans won the AFL championship by beating the Houston Oilers in Double Overtime in one of the most memorable post-season games in pro football history (which included the "We'll Kick to the Clock" fiasco during the Overtime coin-flip.)

In spite of the fact that the Texans won the AFL championship, the franchise immediately left northeastern Texas for western Missouri, due to team owner Lamar Hunt's estimation that there would be no way that his franchise could compete with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys ...... even though the Texans were the best team in the AFL, and the Cowboys were one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Hunt kept the team colors and the franchise records, but he changed the name of the team from the "Texans" to the "Chiefs."

In 1966, the team won the franchise's 2nd AFL championship ...... but they lost the first-ever Super Bowl to the Green Bay Packers 2 weeks later.

In 1969 they won it all, not only claiming the last-ever AFL championship with a win over the Oakland Raiders, but also decisively defeating Bud Grant's heavily-favored Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

The Chiefs then went 24 more seasons before reaching the AFC championship game again in 1993, and then an additional 25 years before reaching (and losing) it again in 2018.

2019 brought the Chiefs their 2nd world championship when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a thrilling Super Bowl ...... and now they are going for a 3rd one against the Buccaneers 2 weeks from now.
