Details of contract here.

Cap Hits:

2020 = $5.4m
2021 = $24.8m
2022 = $31.5m
2023 = $42.5m

And then around $40-$45m for each season after except 2027 which is a crazy $59.9m and 2030 and 2031 which are around $50-52m.

So, for the next three seasons, he is much cheaper than the "average" young QB cap hit of $35m and by the time 2023 rolls round, cap hits of $40m will not be uncommon in the NFL for young QBs.

Assuming COVID does not completely destroy the NFL cap progression.

All of 2020, 2021 and 2022 money is guaranteed as of contract signing.

Each year after, money becomes guaranteed on 3rd day of league year.

Honestly, this is a great contract for the Chiefs. He is dirt cheap for the next two years (that last of his rookie contract) and will be well paid but not over the top by the time 2023 rolls around.

HOU just got punked because Watson is one of the next ones up and BOB will completely screw up his contract negotiations so it will cripple the team for years, I hope. Watson is talented but they will now have to pay him like he has a Patrick Mahomes type impact on the game and he does not.

DAL waited too long on Dak. Now they are having to follow Mahomes' trend instead of potentially setting a lower one.
