On Facebook, I have come across some people whom are saying that today's players are "soft", and that when Chuck Hughes died on the football field in 1971 they continued to play that game after Hughes was taken away in an ambulance.

While Chuck Hughes died on the field in 1971, that was 51 years ago ...... just because that game was finished playing does mean that it was necessarily the right thing to do and/or that that particular precedent should be used for current behavior/decisions that are made in similar situations.

51 years ago, defensive backs were also able to continually hit the receivers an unlimited number of times down the field, as long as the ball was not yet in the air.

51 years ago, the goalposts were in the front of the end zone.

51 years ago, there were no overtime periods for tie games in the regular season.

Now, perhaps one can argue that they believe that the Bills/Bengals game should have been continued to be played after an unconscious and barely breathing Damar Hamlin was taken away in an ambulance, or that it should still be played sometime in the next week-and-a-half so that both teams would finish the season having played 17 games like every other team ...... but just because things occurred 51 years ago and were handled in a certain way doesn't necessarily mean that it was the right thing to do, and it doesn't necessarily mean that if a different decision is made today in a similar situation that it is the wrong thing to do.
