Bootleg Football's Colts Piece + Ballard Interview
Bootleg Football's Colts piece. Finally some coverage beyond the generic recency bias takes. They flat out say up front they're not looking beyond the first 10 games because it's not indicative of the outlook for the team... Which is refreshing to hear.
Thorough deep dive as always: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IH4VvDc13U&t=1s And then this Ballard interview on Chris Simms' show. About 20 minutes - I haven't listened yet, just saw it pop up. Probably a typical mainstream type interview. Wouldn't hold my breath for anything too illuminating, but who knows?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r34vPnmbxvs |
That Bootleg deep dive is so validating. It feels good knowing that even fans of rival teams realize the trajectory this team was on pre-Jones injury. The one thing I think they missed on is that the defense had pretty much the exact same issue as the offense, with the Buckner injury derailing them. I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that the defense was 4th in EPA per play prior to the Buckner injury, then just fell off a cliff like the offense did without Jones. Here's hoping for good health this season, because I think that is the top limiting factor to what this team is capable of achieving.

Validation will take wins.

I just watched the Bootleg video. So, while I agree with them, that CJ Allen may not be very good in coverage. But, he is light years better that Zaire Franklin. Which is qualm, that they don't correlate how much the Colts still improved at MLB in pass coverage.
