Nelson

I am looking for any positive sign from this team. Nelson won't play in the pro bowl. It appears he is working on his body (and hopefully hit mental state), getting it into shape and putting this piece of shit year behind him. Can only be a good thing. We need a complete attitude rebuild on this team and it needs to start with guys like Nelson.

We'll never get it from him... but I really wish he'd explain what the issue for him was this year. Back issue? Weight? Stamina? Some other distraction?

The 4x NFL Pro Bowler battled through injuries all season—including a high ankle sprain that cost him three games (and was re-aggravated late in the season), but also a listed back, knee, and toe injury at various times—as well as a COVID-19
He was hurt all year, the high ankle sprain probably making him play on one leg most of the season.

That's from last year, not this year.

Telling ya, I got scoffed at for suggesting it pretty early in the year, but look at the dude's legs in comparison to his torso- they looked like twigs; like the proverbial body builder meme where the comment is about skipping leg days. This sounds ludicrous but a number of times this year there were shots of him from behind- walking back to LOS, etc... and his pants were sagging in the ass, where other linemen's pants were still stretched to contain their hips and buttocks. Something was hurting this man and he could not work on his base. Either that, or he just quit doing shit in the weight room - which I find hard to believe with the fire this guy once demonstrated.

Heres the one I found,

No explanation other than this.

Nelson was proud of his Pro Bowl nod, but he acknowledged late in this season that his play hadn’t met his usually pristine standards:

“It hasn’t been to my standard, for sure,” Nelson said in late December via The Indy Star’s Nate Atkins. “I’ve had some bad reps and some good ones, too, but overall, I’m not super happy with it.”
It means that Nelson may be looking to get his body right after a long season and re-focus getting back his elite level of blocking at left guard again—where he was the gold standard.

I still believe that Nelson is a generational talent, but he made the pro bowl this year because he's supposed to make the pro bowl. He didn't make all-pro.

To a degree at least, the coaches lost the players. Too many players on both sides of the ball regressed last year.

People will say that players need to be able to maintain their drive no matter who the coach is, or how the coach does. However, this is not true. if it were, teams would not need to worry about who the coach is. Just get the best players and let them neat the opponents. it is hard to stay motivated to perform at your highest level when you just don't believe in what the leader is spewing week to week.

I don't give a shit about excuses. I want Nelson to return to his elite form next year. His cap hit next year is 12+million, after that, it gets enormous. 25+ million. If he has another year like this past one, I'd find a way to get rid of him.

Kray007 01-31-2023 05:11 PM

The official reason given is that he has a “previously undisclosed injury.”
