Colts draft OT Bernhard Raimann - Round 3, Pick 77

WR, TE and OT - not a bad Day 2.

It’s OT Bernard Raimann (Central Michigan) at No. 77.

8 starts at LT. Older prospect at 24.

Known for his athleticism as a former TE.

OT was an unquestioned need. Easily the earliest OT pick in the Ballard era (Braden Smith was drafted to be OG).

Bernhard Raimann was drafted with pick 77 of round 3 in the 2022 draft class.

He scored a 9.87 RAS out of a possible 10.00.

This ranked 17 out of 1218 OT from 1987 to 2022.

During the Combine. He ran a 5.05-second 40-yard dash time, which is certainly respectable. He benched 30 times, with a 30.5” vertical, a 117” broad jump, a three-cone time of 7.46 seconds, and a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.49.

He fell farther than he should have bc of medical concerns. But good value in the third.

Another early-round offensive tackle who was flunked medically by some teams and removed from their draft-able board is Central Michigan's Bernhard Raimann. As with Neal, we will respect Raimann's privacy and team discretion to keep quiet on the exact nature. Raimann was a projected second-day pick by teams prior to the the medical reports coming in, and these medical concerns could cause Raimann to slide.

The analysts on ESPN said there is concern about his knees which is why he fell so far, but they did say that he could be a steal if he remains healthy. Doesn't look like he missed any starts at CMU, at least after he moved to LT, so hopefully it's a non-issue.

This man could be our LT for years to come. He made the transition to LT during COVID (which decreased greatly the hands on time to make that transition) and was successful, not small task. He is a little older but that was because he spent time in the Austrian Army, being a veteran is a positive.

I also heard a story from Paul Alexander OL coaching guru) on XM, on how spent some time coaching Raimann on a blocking technique he had never used before. To Alexander's surprise Raimann was using that technique the next week at the Senior Bowl.

Alexander gave him praise to what a quick learner Raimann was and how he took to coaching.

The worst part about this pick is that apparently you pronounce his name "Ry-Man" not "Ray-Man."

That's a lot of Wapner and good driver and burn the baby jokes that are now useless.

This may be weird, but I saw a lot of Castanzo in him. More late career Castanzo, because his kick slide is way better than Anthony's was coming out.
