Gino Marchetti passed away
One of the greatest defensive ends ever to play the game. He was 93 years old.

Gino is an all time great, who I believe was one of the first HOF members and voted to the All Century team.
Pretty awesome and rare for a football player to live to 93 years of age. |

Jim Irsay, on Marchetti ........ "Rest in peace, Gino Marchetti. The son of immigrants --- and a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge against the Nazis --- Marchetti was one of the greatest to play the game. Gino was a player who helped turn the nation's attention toward the "new sport" on television." https://twitter.com/JimIrsay/status/1123247662298484744 o |

In the 1964 World Championship game between the Colts and the Browns, the Browns defeated the Colts soundly by a score of 27-0. Marchetti felt that Browns quarterback Frank Ryan ran up the score in the 2nd half, so in the Pro Bowl 2 weeks later, Marchetti gave Ryan a major shot ........ Marchetti had felt that Ryan had run up the score on the Colts in the 2nd half of that championship game, and he allegedly was sending a message to Ryan. When I saw this on NFL Films, Ryan fell down ........ and got back up, and fell down again ........ and got back up, and fell down again ........ he eventually was able to keep his feet long enough to get back into the huddle for the Eastern division All-Stars. I dug up this article on the hit. A Hit to Remember at the ’65 Pro Bowl (Pro Football Daly Staff) http://profootballdaly.com/the-headl...1965-pro-bowl/ o |
