The 2023 AL East ...... Will Every Team Finish the Season With a Winning Record ???

o

MLB's divisional realignment in 1994 made the possibility of every team in a single division finishing with a winning record a bona-fide possibility ...... it was technically possible between 1969 and 1993, but it wasn't truly a realistic possibility because of the fact that there were 6 teams in every division (7 in the American League from 1977 on.) In 2005, the NL East finished that season with every team at .500 or better ...... the Washington Nationals came in last place with a record of 81-81.

Granted that it's still very early in the season to presume that things will continue to play out like they currently are, but so far the AL East looks as strong this year as it did last year ...... and last year, the Red Sox came in last place with a record of 78-84. Add to that the new, balanced schedule, which spares all 5 AL East teams from cannibalizing each other with 19 head-on games against one another, and the division could very well make history by becoming the first one ever to accomplish the feat of finishing with all of its teams above the .500 mark ...... time will tell whether or not that actually comes to fruition.
