nfl network says Colts came out wearing the wrong cleats

Didn't see report myself, but a friend tells me that one of the Colts players was on this morning and said that the team came out for the game wearing the wrong cleats for field conditions. Resulted in tentative play, as players were more worried about keeping their footing than making plays.

1. This doesn't surprise me. They were sliding around the field like they were wearing skates. The difference between the two teams' ability to move was obvious. And it wasn't a "KC knows how to play in bad weather" thing. We saw plenty of that in the 00s when the Colts went to Foxboro. This was different.

2. How the FUCK does this happen with an NFL team? Field conditions were not a surprise. Football has been played in the snow for decades. They had access to the field well before kickoff. If the gear people somehow weren't sure which cleats to provide, they could've tested on the field and then chosen. This is basic 101-level equipment management. Someone should be fired for this.

3. Makes me feel better about getting manhandled by the Chiefs in the 1st half. They were still probably the better team, but I didn't think they were that much better. Especially with forcing so many 3-and-outs.

It was obvious watching that geathers couldn’t start or stop. How do they not have that figured out before the game

If true, and that is a big IF, then I agree that a failure on this level is pretty bad. They were on the field for at least 60 minutes prior to kickoff (and more probably 90 minutes) and had ample time to assess the conditions and adjust the cleats if needed.

However, I could see this as a "CYA" move by a player or two to "justify" why they got blown out.

But, if true, a head or two should roll.

Walk Worthy,

Walk Worthy,

I plan on watching the game again this weekend but I had the thought in real time that the cleats were an issue for them and not the chiefs

Same. I commented in the game thread here, I think. Maybe it was a text to someone. Anyway, I remember saying it looked like the weather wasn't impacting the Chiefs at all but was kicking the Colts ass big time.

You could tell. They were running like guys unsure of their footing.

That said, it was a huge fuck up. That is what pregame warmups should tell you.

you hear this from time to time and I dont get it. shouldnt equipment managers have several types of cleats on hand for every game? the weather was known to be an issue for a week before the game. they have plenty of time to check things out pregame. and how hard is it to change during the game as well?

seems monumentally stupid if its truely the case.

I mentioned before the game that I hope the equipment had the right cleats figured out for the game

HoosierinFL 01-17-2019 03:50 PM

I specifically remember thinking this during the game, like "oh it seems as if they are in sneakers and not cleats" but then I thought "nah, they've gotta me smart enough to figure that out before hand"

fucking hell.
