It took a long time to find the new OL coach. I still think it's weird to let Guge go without a replacement ready to go.

Here's Chris Strausser's history:

Quote:

Strausser has 30 years of coaching experience. He spent the last two seasons with the Denver Broncos and served as the offensive line-tackles coach (2018) and assistant offensive line coach (2017). Prior to the NFL, Strausser had 28 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level at the University of Washington (2014-16), Boise State (2001-05, 2007-2013), Colorado (2006), Portland State (1993-94, 2000), Foothill College (1997-99), San Jose State (1995-96), Sonoma State (1992), Oregon State (1990-91) and Menlo College (1989).
Deon Cain is TO without the drama.

Holder ran into Rams OL coach Aaron Kromer, who unsolicited told him the Colts just made a great hire in Strausser.

They tell me he was recommended by Deon Cain.

TO wouldn't be TO if there was no drama

Happy to see that Howard Mudd is back with the Colts to lend his expertise. Dude is one of the best. Never can have too many good coaches.

Weird move. He is 76 and hasn't coached since 2012. Seems like a move you make when your team's owner is not confident in the OL coach you just brought in.

Maybe this will all work out, Reich has made a lot of great moves and earned a lot of credit so there's not a ton of reason to doubt him. I just still don't get moving on from a guy that coached this OL to be the best line we've had in decades.

I dont think its that weird. He is not the OL coach, he is a special assistant, or some innocuous title. Its good to have some grey beards around to lend a perspective based on many years of knowledge.

Dante Scarnecchi is 70
Age is just a number. I think much of the success the OL achieved was very good talent finally & the new scheme that makes Luck get rid of the ball quicker. DeGugliemo seemed more of rah rah guy than a teacher.

We're all just speculating here, of course, but it could be the Mudd was simply bored in retirement, saw the Colts hire a new OL coach, and asked Irsay if he could come back to the team and putter around to help out. Seems like an Irsay kind of thing to do.
