Colts Release Hankins

@Colts
We have released DT Johnathan Hankins: indcolts.co/XSdwU4

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?

HoosierinFL 03-17-2018 02:17 PM

ok, this one is weird. I mean, wtf wow

Dam8610 03-17-2018 02:22 PM

Going hard after Suh?

Kray007 03-17-2018 02:32 PM

Why, Chris Ballard, why?

When he was with the Giants, he was brilliant as a 43 DT. Seems to me that Ballard's just created a gaping hole on D that has to be filled.

Just not understanding the rationale.

Going hard after some DT who's more of a 1-gap penetrater.

Kray007 03-17-2018 02:34 PM

Maybe he caught him in flagrante delecto with Mrs. Ballard.

Why not trade him? Surely someone like Bill Belichick would've given up a 3rd rounder for him?

Kray007 03-17-2018 02:50 PM

Releasing Hankins makes the 2017 free agent class for the Colts look like a Ryan Grigson special...a steaming pile of cow dung.

YDFL Commish 03-17-2018 02:52 PM

I hope to god that Ballard is not thinking of taking Maurice Hurst at#6.

Ballard didn't sign any aging veterans or character problems to overpriced contacts. That's a Grigson special.

Grigson had such a vast panorama of incompetence that I'm not sure it's possible to limit it to overpriced contracts or character issues.

With a nod to the Godfather..."Just when I'm feeling good, he drags me back down again." :D

It all involved blowing his cap wad on mostly useless players, though. Ballard at least isn't doing that.

Indiana V2 03-17-2018 03:31 PM

Ballard follows up the brilliant trade with the Jets with this sucktudnal display, what the heck, Chris?

Maniac 03-17-2018 03:33 PM

This makes no sense. It's not like we needed the cap space.

FatDT 03-17-2018 03:59 PM

What the fuck is Ballard doing?

If that's the case, you can wait to release him till after the draft.

He just created an unnecessary hole on DLine, apparently to save salary, and to add 8mil to the cap, which apparently he doesn't want to spend !! Just a real head scratcher.

If he released him then, the Colt's would be on the hook for 4.5mil of his 8ml 2018 salary.

smitty46953 03-17-2018 04:17 PM

Irsay hurting financially??? LOL Saves $8.5 against the cap we dont need right now... I don't get this at all unless he is making a move for Suh ...

Seriously doubt he's going after Suh, doesn't fit his profile.

Why in the name of God would you let a guy who is a good locker room presence go, then sign a guy who has a bad rep, and will be asking for a boatload of money, not to mention he's like 5 years older ??

It's getting harder and harder to find the "good" players who Ballard picked up. Woods, Simon and Sheard, and none of those guys are exactly incipient pro bowlers...especially if Woods gets the boot because he's a NT.

VeveJones007 03-17-2018 04:54 PM

Wow. Got to me more to the story.

Brylok 03-17-2018 05:32 PM

Hankins probably wanted to leave. He doesn't want to play in a 4-3 defense, the roster stinks, and there's very little chance to win the division.

Remember when Ellis Johnson abruptly retired when Dungy took over?

For whatever reason, he loved playing in Fangio's POS defense, and wanted no part of Dungy's defense, which ironically was the perfect fit for him. After the Colts released him, he went on to play a few more successful seasons for the Falcons and Broncos.

This move could be similar, as you're saying, Hankins doesn't want to play in 3-4.

Butter 03-17-2018 05:54 PM

Well, this one is a head-scratcher.

He played just fine in the Giant's 43 D. In fact, he and Snacks Harrison were the heart of one of the best run stopping lines in the league.

Who cares? It's peanuts for an NFL team.

If this is about fit with Hankins, then going after Suh makes sense. Eberflus is going to use Tampa 2 concepts, and Suh's best skillset is as a 3 technique 1 gap penetrator. He'd be much like Warren Sapp in that role.

Sure as hell hard to understand how this move makes them better. One of the few areas that seemed set is now just another question mark on a team filled with them.

I’m not typically one to over react, but it’s damn hard not to be worried about Ballard’s direction with this team.

Doubt they're going after Suh, and if they released Hankins to free up money for Suh, then what happens if they don't get Suh?

I was merely speaking to fit. I have no idea why Ballard is hoarding cap space like Smaug the Defiler.

Making absolutely sure that this is going to be a 3-4 year rebuild!!

FatDT 03-17-2018 09:45 PM

They're sticking with scheme fit. If our new scheme can't use Hankins then it sucks. This is like when Freeney wasn't a scheme fit. Fuck the scheme. Adjust to the talent on the roster. That's what good coaches do.
