Chargers Injuries

Derwin James is likely out for the opener after suffering a foot injury. He might be the Chargers best player, so that should have a major impact on the game.

Keenan Allen is questionable (definitely out all pre-season) due to an ankle injury.

Oh, and Melvin Gordon still hasn't reported to camp due to a contract hold-out.

I still don't like our chances against them without Luck.

Luck is playing week 1, they're just being overly cautious. He'd throw for 300 yards and run for another 80 yards today if he had to!

Big loss for Chargers. A lot bigger loss if Luck plays

Derwin opted for surgery and will be out for the first 3 months of the season.

#Chargers S Derwin James will undergo surgery on his foot following evaluations of the stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal, sources say. He’s expected to be sidelined around three months. The surgery will be performed by noted foot and ankle specialist Robert Anderson.

Schefter adds a bit more about Derwin James' surgery. The surgery will be performed this Thursday and will remove some hardware from a prior surgery from back in college. Schefter puts recovery at 3-4 months.

Chargers S Derwin James is scheduled to undergo foot surgery in North Carolina on Thursday, per source. A screw that James had inserted in his foot as a freshman at Florida State bent last week and doctors determined it’s best to remove it. James is expected back in 3-4 months.

With his absence, I wonder if this means more reps for the rookie S Nasir Adderley? That is one thing I will be watching from the Chargers side - their two rookies from Rounds 1 (Tillery) and 2 (Adderley). I know there were several people on this forum that thought that the Colts should draft (or perhaps predicted that the Colts would draft) one or both of those players.

Apparently Adderly hasn't been able to get on the field either due to injury.

It appears he has a sore hamstring as well. I had assumed he would be ready because some of the Chargers beat writers had listed him as a possibility to fill in Week 1 with James out.

But it appears the Chargers are in a similar situation as the Colts are with Campbell and the team isn't quite sure when he will be fully back to practice and games.

Rapoport says it’s expected that Melvin Gordon’s holdout will last into the season.

This is the type of thing that other teams deal with when their ownership SUCKS. The Spanos have found any number of ways to step on their own dicks.

Jim Irsay has his flaws, but it's not with how he treats the players or the fans.
