Although I don't think he should be a head coach Anywhere in the league, this praise is sincere. It's my understanding that he is responsible for Bruce Arians getting an opportunity to resurrect his career after the powers that be had written him off and he had one foot out of the leagues doors on his way to retirement. By giving him the opportunity to come to the Colts and do what he did in the year that Pagano battled cancer, Chuck is singularly responsible for igniting life back into Bruce's career.........this was documented in one of those NFL network A Football Life stories and Bruce himself gives Chuck all the credit. This is why I think people that continue to pretend that Irsay screwed up in not "keeping Arians over Pagano" are really stupid. Even if it were good business (and it wouldn't be based on $ And public optics) there is no freaking way that Arians would put the knife in his friends back and accept a head coaching gig that Chuck was fired from on the heels of his cancer battle. Anyone that inspires this kind of loyalty from a friend is a high character kind of guy. With that said, I still believe that Chuckie needs to be fired yesterday. He's had 6 years.....we've seen his best and it's not good enough.

OK, I'll take a serious shot.

First of all, if the chattering classes, the guys who get paid to cover the league, are to be believed, the Colts have a wretched roster, filled with guys who can't play. Andrew Luck's been injured for the better part of two years, the OL can't block, the Defense sucks, and the running game is average at best.

And, yet, the Colts haven't folded. They haven't descended to the depths of mediocrity that we see in places like San Francisco. 8 and 8 might be unacceptable in Indy, but for teams like the Jets, it'd be a revelation.

I don't know how much credit that Chuck gets for that. But, he has to get some. Half the coaches in the league would've lost the locker room. Half the coaches in the league would've taken the exact guys the Colts are playing with and led them to a top 5 pick in the draft.

Don't get me wrong. Chuck is fully capable of making boneheaded moves, and I'm not sure if he's walking the sidelines at this point a year from now.
But, make no mistake, while there are better coaches out there, there are also worse.

He is a world class clapper.

If they brought back The Clapper and made a new commercial for it, he could star in it.

He seems like a nice guy when he's not throwing his assistants under the bus.

"Seems" is an appropriate word.

o

His team has a .667 winning percentage in their last 3 games.

And he is very good at backing up his car without getting into an accident. He's very responsible, he always looks out the back window (instead of just looking in the rear-view mirror.)

I really can't think of any positives he brings to the table from a coaching perspective. I'm trying to think of some. There's just nothing there.
