new turf going in at LOS

I haven't seen much on this, but LOS is getting new turf before the start of the season.

its going to be some form of field turf. The local soccer team has hesitated to play at LOS , they prefer grass. But thy finally gave in and are playing at the Oil Can. The field turf is better than the old turf and better in bad weather if installed with a heat system

The current surface was installed in 2008:

Quote:

"Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, features a “Classic HD,” turf field manufactured by Fieldturf. In 2010, Lucas Oil Stadium was voted by the NFL Players Association the number one artificial surface in the NFL, all according to Fieldturf’s website.
It appears that their "new" top end product is named "core" with "classic HD" being their lower cost primary sports option.

They have a line that touts "true ball roll" (Vertrex and Vertrex Prime), a non-sports line (Revolutio 360, XM7, Vintage) and then some that are designed for field hockey (Hockey Gold, Hockey Speed, Hockey Multi).

The Classic HD series was rated for a decade of use which is where we are at with it. My guess is that this was a known, planned upgrade to replace the "end of life" original Classic HD product.

It is interesting that there are almost no news articles about this.

Walk Worthy,

Soccer is dumb.

Hope they don’t end up playing there

Yeah... it's been pretty slow around here.

Very

I wonder how the new turf will affect injuries. Does it help prevent injuries at all?

It's got to be better than the stuff they had in the Hoosier Dome or 80's cookie cutter stadiums. Very little padding, just brutal in below freezing weather.

I remember walking on it when I was a kid. I was really surprised at how thin it felt. Getting tackled hard on that surface must've been brutal.
