He's a roving I don't know what but he's working with the OLine so HOT DAMN

Luck4Reich 02-07-2019 07:07 PM

Hasnt he been away since like 2012? Not saying he cant do some good things. What is his position? Advisor?

He was a player and a coach and he found a way to get the most out of his talent and his players

Per the release on colts.com, his title is "senior offensive assistant"

I'm good with that.

I think this type of role for him is better than the position of OL Coach.

YDFL Commish 02-07-2019 08:45 PM

I can see Mudd installing some new run game concepts.

Bring the stretch play back, or outside zone...whatever you wanna call it. The play action off of that with properly trained OL is unbelievable.

I would like to have the ability to line up in the I or the offset I when teams go small. I hate to say it, but that is one NE's biggest strengths...going old school to best new school defenses.

Not sure how he does that when he’s not the OC

He may talk to Frank about it. But doubt an assistant OL coach installs any plays

omahacolt 02-08-2019 08:37 AM

The oline will be better for this hire imo. Good move. The other day I read some olineman say that his drills were the best since they were based on actual football moves.

Oldcolt 02-08-2019 10:27 AM

Loved the guy first time around. Not thrilled he’s back. He’s old and been retired for 6 years. While his lines were great blocking for Peyton they were considered finesse. Hopefully that was only a function of the players he had. I want this line to build on its nastiness and hope Mudd doesn’t mess with it. I’m probably just paranoid but I loved watching this line and don’t want anything to mess with it’s attitude

DrSpaceman 02-08-2019 10:40 AM

Glad he is back

Sounds like he is kind of an all around consultant for the offense. Won't be calling plays or running the OL, but helping out in areas of need.

Seemed like a muddled bunch of weird circumstances the first time he left.

He is an assistant and not the oline coach. I can’t imagine his knowledge of the game having a negative effect whatsoever

Word is that Tony Ugoh suddenly looked over his shoulder in fear for his job again. ;)

These are the same guys who helped Edge get all those yards rushing.

What I do like about last year was how the O line kept moving until the echo of the whistle. Now that was a Mudd trait. Finishing. Keeping your head on a swivel.

DrSpaceman 02-11-2019 03:29 PM

I don't think "finesse" is ever a word that will be applied to Quenton Nelson

Finesse somehow makes people think it's not violent. Nelson couldn't hit the way he does, if he wasn't technically sound. Great feet, great tech when he pulls, his vision is really good for a rookie, and he has room to improve.

Mudd tends to get the best out of the guys he gets. You can't get enough good guys in a room.

Oldcolt 02-11-2019 05:40 PM

Of course finesse in reguards to an offensive line is violent. Not being finesse is all about attitude. Nelson talking to Castanzo being pissed because they didn’t put their man on the ground. Block was made but that wasn’t the point of their block. The point is not to make the block but to destroy the guy across from you. Come to think about it it’s hard to see Mudd not loving that

Apparently you haven't seen his no look behind the back pass?

AlwaysSunnyinIndy 02-19-2019 10:41 PM

Here is an article from Chappell covering Mudd's introductory press conference. Reminisces a bit from his first "tour" and seems really excited about the current team and being able to work with Reich and Strausser.

The more talent on this team the better, and that's not just on the field. That's in the front office, on the coaching staff, etc..... so for them to bring him in is absolutely a positive for the team. Good hire.

JAFF 02-20-2019 07:25 AM

apparently Nelson wanted more coaching.

After a while it is just ridiculous and I find myself asking if this kid is for real. He's just doing everything right.

HoosierinFL 02-20-2019 10:51 AM

Dammit, I can only get so erect.

Exactly what you want out of a top ten pick.

It seems like Ballard wants that out of every player he brings in.

Pez 02-20-2019 12:20 PM

And seems willing to fire the OL coaching Staff responsible for the OL that allowed the fewest sacks on the season to keep his players happy.
