Indianapolis Colts Sign Defensive End Chris McCain

The Colts have added another player to their group of pass rushers as they’ve signed former Chargers edge defender Chris McCain.

"McCain is tall and slender at 6′ 5″ 224 pounds, so he won’t be able to contribute much against the run on early downs.

However, he’s become a pass rush specialist over his four year career, and he’s coming off of a career-high 5 sack season with the Chargers in 2017. He also recorded 19 total tackles and forced 2 fumbles with Los Angeles last year."

Meh.

Don't know where he will fit in with Sheard, Simon, Basham, Autry, Turay and Lewis in front of him.

Don't mind the camp body but don't expect much out of him.

Walk Worthy,

220 lbs. is embarrassing for an NFL "lineman".

I'm guessing he's primarily a ST signing.

SAM?

After they confirmed Simon at DE I have no idea who will be SAM in this defense

Guy has been a situational pass rusher I doubt they move him to SAM. He is competition for edge methinks.

I’m not positive that Simon makes the team next year.

Chromeburn 05-11-2018 12:38 PM

Pass rush sub package guy. Not a bad signing, see if he makes the team. We have a lot of average guys on there. Then the developmental guys.

I expect Walker and Morrison to compete at SAM, w/Walker also competing at MIKE. Walker's will win one of the two starting positions.

Morrison's only chance of making this team is at SAM, and even that's iffy.

A 5 flat 40 DT might not have room on this roster, so a 5 flat 40 LB? All but assuredly gone.

I would've thought the same thing. But either Eberflus sees something he can work with, or we are so thin at LB, that they can't afford to release him right now.

They added three LBs in the draft that fit their mold (Leonard, Adams, Franklin), and two in free agency (Goode, Moore). Walker might work in their system, so that's six LBs, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's all they keep. They're going to be thin at the position this year, because the Colts lacked athletes at the LB position despite running a 34 defense. This is one of the many reasons I think the 2019 draft will be very front 7 focused for the Colts.

Morrison not making the team would make me happy.

Every evaluation you have is based on 40 times

Every evaluation I have is based on game tape. Measurables can influence those opinions, but it would be stupid to say, for example, that Malik Jefferson is a better LB than Leighton Vander Esch.

It would also be stupid to say that Pagano is a good coach, but...

Not sure why anyone would want a player to be cut without seeing what happens with real coaches schemes and player development.

We were screwed for the last 6 yrs. some of these guys including Morrison and Green may end up as pretty good players.

Green actually has the raw skills that may be in the right scheme might be good.

Morrison is just too slow and plus there’s been enough stories where he seems like a bit of a douche.

That said, to your point, his skills actually might translate to an ST role, so if that’s the case then I’m fine with him making the team. My point was that even with great coaches I don’t see a guy who’s literally just too slow ever succeeding in the NFL at a LB spot, regardless of scheme.

I've never seen this mentioned anywhere?

Also, while Morrison is indeed slow footed, I believe he ran that 40 on an injured knee.

I'll never make excuses for his lousy play on the field though.

Has there been any news about this guy regarding the domestic violence charge against him ?

Discflinger 07-20-2018 10:32 AM

Only that he's been arraigned on two charges of battery and he plead not guilty.

Sorry to everyone on the C&O bump...

I never got back with you on this one (I thought I did), but when I saw this story today, it made me think of this post.

He definitely sounds like a douche here:

@Michael_Cohen13
Linebacker Antonio Morrison was removed from a plane and cited for interfering with flight operations a week before the #Packers released him. Morrison had earned an escalator that bumped his salary to $2.02 million for 2019.

Story for @TheAthleticWISC:

Quote:

The incident occurred when a female flight attendant questioned passengers about a bag placed under a vacant seat. The flight attendant said Morrison declined to acknowledge whether the bag was his and began cursing.

“Fuck you. You don’t own this plane. I can do whatever I want,” Morrison said, according to the incident report.

The plane, which had departed from Gate C23, stopped its initial taxi toward the runway and returned to Gate C19 at the pilot’s discretion.

Morrison exited the plane and spoke with a Milwaukee County deputy who had been dispatched to the scene. Morrison told the deputy he placed his bag under an empty seat because the woman next to him had placed her bag underneath his seat.

“Morrison stated he did not feel he needed to explain why his bag was under an empty seat and thought the explanation (about) whose bag was good enough,” the deputy wrote in the report. “During this time Morrison was cursing casually with me and could not complete a sentence without the word fuck.”

The Packers cut Morrison a week later, on March 8, and he remains a street free agent.
