Need to add a vet the OL group
CB room looks a little thin
11 DL's seems like overkill to me
I'm ok with 4 LB's

The Colts already have a visit scheduled tomorrow with CB Mike Hilton. And there were some interesting CB waivers across the league that they might try to claim through the wire.

And if they are planning to make a waiver claim, the corresponding move may be to cut one of the DL.

YDFL Commish 08-26-2025 06:27 PM

I was going to suggest bringing in Mike Hilton. Yep, add to the O-Line and subtract one of the 6 DT's.

Naw.....

The "March for Arch" is real....

We are going to let opponent throw for 500 yards per game against us.

Anarumo wants his guys in here

Seeing both Johnson II and Smith make the team is super surprising and doesn't make a lot of sense. I honestly thought there was a decent chance neither of them would make the 53. I would have preferred that they had kept Land over both Johnson and Smith, or had kept someone like Treadwell, Owen, Bentley, or Brents over both of them. Although that's probably a moot point b/c I'm sure one of them will be waived to make room for Hilton and/or a waiver claim.

Here's who I'm hoping we get on our PS from our cuts:

WR Treadwell*
LP Ajiake
QB Bean
RB Bentley IV
CB Brents*
DE Land*
RB Noel
WR Owen
G Sills
CB Womack III*
TE Woods*

*realize chances are pretty small they make it past waivers or are not signed by another team.

The Colts could sign Mike Hilton to the practice squad for the time being. Give him a week or two to adjust to the team. And he could always be elevated for game days if needed.

I know that Treadwell had a good camp and preseason...but you also need to remember that over the last 3 seasons, he pulled in a grand total of 7 receptions. So I would be surprised if there was a ton of interest for him.

I’m not sure there would be any point in keeping Bean. Leonard is clearly better.

This is year 9 for Chris Ballard and that is an average NFL roster at best. Barring a division win and playoff run, I won't mind seeing the end of him and Shane both. I'd feel sorry for Buckner and Nelson if they weren't already multimillionaires.

And, no, Archie Manning will never be a Colt. Stop with that nonsense already. Beyond sick of all things "Arch".

Lot's of talk on JMV tonight to just isolate the 2023 draft and consider if Chris Ballard should still be a GM. The resounding answer just using that draft class, is a fucking hellaciously loud NO. This dude is just bad at his job, period. Drafts guys that can't play, or are constantly hurt, and in a lot of cases BOTH!

Fair point but I still like our "Mr. Bean" who showed some sparks from what I could see in the Bungles game.

Does anyone think we need to improve the Linebacker position on the waiver wire?

The 2023 draft wasn’t very good for a lot of teams. It was likely due to the COVID rules. The drafts the past few years have been like that, where you don’t really know how a player will be in the NFL, due to age and experience. I think it starts to normalize with the next draft, as most of the COVID rules will be over.

Yes, I’ve been saying this for a while. They must really like McGrone because he’s basically all they’ve got beyond Zaire.

I did hear that Anarumo wants to play primarily dime defenses so that helps explain it, along with all the corners they’re collecting.

Still, that’s a bare cupboard at linebacker.

ChaosTheory 08-27-2025 09:55 AM

Nothing on offense really seems surprising. Woods just Parris Campbell'd himself off the team. Understandable.

Anarumo clearly has a lesser emphasis on LB than DB. I lean toward thinking they'll stay at 4 even when Carlies returns and release someone (probably Olubi). Could definitely pick up a casualty from another team here.

Anarumo also clearly has a type for CB's and it's not the same as Eberflus'/Bradley's. Jones is good, but all indications are that he was going to lose out to Walley outside. He'll still contribute in this scheme as heavy DB as it is. Brents is also good, but like Woods, he Parris Campbell'd himself off the team.

If Hilton signs, I'm guessing Eric Johnson/Tim Smith will give up a spot.

Hoopsdoc 08-27-2025 11:21 AM

Florio is reporting Anthony Walker will work out for the Colts tomorrow.

Colts pick up another LB through waivers.

And Brents, Womack and Woods get claimed by other teams.

I haven't listened to any of the radio guys this week. I might listen to the podcasts tonight just to hear the reaction to the Ballard press conference. I haven't seen that yet either, but I've heard it's a doozy. I'm hoping for the best, but this season might be shaping up to be a mess.

IndyNorm 08-27-2025 06:13 PM

Bummer on Brents, Womack, and Woods, but not surprising at all.

Good to see LB depth brought in. To make room we waived Tim Smith. Guessing we'll sign him to the PS if he clears waivers.

I disagree with the statement that this is an average roster at best. We are really only a QB away form contending. Put Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, Jackson. Hell, even add in Prescott, Herbert and maybe Purdy, and this is at worst an 11 win team.

If this is an average roster with poor QB play, then Stechen is a genius. Especially when you consider that he had to deal with Bradley's stupid ass defensive shortcomings.

Agreed. If we get even average play out of Jones, Bortolini, and Goncalves, and avoid major injuries, the offense will be fine.

I really don’t know what to expect from the defense, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

We really aren’t that far from being pretty good.

Of course, there are a lot of teams that can say that.

The Colts tried to claim two LB's through waivers. They also put in a claim for Cam Jones...but the Jets had a higher priority on the waiver order.

And a little interesting that only one team put a claim in on Brents but two teams tried to claim Womack.

Players who had multiple teams try to claim them yesterday:

Jalyn Armour-Davis: Titans, Saints, Dolphins, Eagles
Beau Brade: Giants, Jaguars
Jordan Jefferson: 49ers, Bengals
Cam Jones: Jets, Colts
Jaylon Jones: Bears, Patriots
Sam Womack: Titans, Browns

Looks like Land his headed back to where he began his NFL journey.

He initially signed with the Cowboys as an UDFA and had a terrific first camp.

However, he failed to make the initial 53 man roster and was waived...and the Colts made a waiver claim.

After he missed the cut this year with the Colts, it appears he decided to return to Dallas and sign with the Cowboys practice squad.

The Cowboys are adding DEs Isaiah Land and Dayo Odeleye to their practice squad and would like to bring back CB Zion Childress. If Childress clears waivers, the Cowboys would have to release a player from the practice squad.

I hope you're right. And, truth be told, I'm probably being overly pessimistic about this season. I'm just tired of mediocrity and the AR/Daniel Jones stuff. And the Ballard stuff. I watched that presser and it wasn't as bad as people made out. It wasn't great, but...meh. I think I'll just shut up and see how the first couple of games go. Hopefully they'll surprise me.
