Off topic post==== pacers!

I know this is on the main page and it will need to be moved, but I wanted to post it here to get as many looks as possible before it is moved.

It was only a couple years ago where several of us were talking about the Pacers and how there had been a real loss of interest. There were a number of people sort of dumping on what they had become. I kept saying this team was different- we weren't winning a bunch of games then but we were showing signs of potential and things were fun again inside Gainbridge.

POTENTIAL NO MORE! This team, these games, this is magical! There is a tie to the Colts in this post also...

A couple weeks ago on one of the radio shows they mentioned a convo with Kevin Pritchard just before Ty's first game as a Pacer. Remember, Sabonis was "the guy" here at the time and we traded him for a mostly unproven guard. When the reporter asked Pritchard why we made the trade- and this is again just before the tip of Hali's 1st game as a Pacer- Pritchard's response was "He is going to be our Peyton Manning". Massive statement, massive shoes to fill, and the guy is doing it!

If you aren't on this bus, man you are missing out, this thing is CRAZY!

Go Cers!

sherck 05-22-2025 08:17 AM

That was a crazy finish to the game, both at the end of the 4th and in OT.

On par with Peyton's 21 points in the final four minutes against the Bucs in 2003.

Down 17 with just over 6 minutes left, the Pacers scored an incredible 31 points on their final 13 possessions in regulation.

And the tying shot with time expiring was about a quarter inch away from being a 3-point shot to win it instead of a 2-point shot to tie it.

Just an incredible finish.

CletusPyle 05-22-2025 08:25 AM

They are a complete team, not a team of superstars, there is no ego on this team, they share the ball and seem like a very happy family! The only guy I see as a potential problem would be Mathurin, and I think that is the reason he hasn't seen the floor as much lately. Carlisle is also a great coach who doesn't get as much credit as he deserves.

They are a deep team and they just wear their opponents out. Conditioning has something to do with it to, these guys seem to never run out of gas! The Knicks are a tough team asnd after that, if they can win you have OKC, but I think this team has a better chance to win it all than the 2000 team.

Go Pacers!

I went to Phoenix and Denver this year. I think this team is tougher after the loss. LET'S GO RICK!

Discflinger 05-26-2025 03:28 AM

I spent 500 sitting behind the bench in Denver but can't post a video. I love this God damn team!

Crazy. I'm not the biggest NBA fan, but I'm definitely glad I tuned in and stuck w/ game 1. Would be awesome if they're able to bring another championship to Indy!!

Gonna need better effort Wednesday than last night. We were letting OKC dictate the game.

(GAME THREE)

The Bad News: llll The Thunder are 10-for-18 from 3-point range at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Good News: ll In spite of this, the Pacers are only down by 5 points, and are very much alive to get the W in the 4th quarter.

Mission accomplished! Mathurin came to play, and so did TJ McConnell. Turner came up big on defense in the 4th. This was a team win if there ever was one.

Even more eye-popping than the Thunder's 3-point shooting was a separate statistic that was dominated by the Pacers ...... the Pacers' bench outscored the Thunders' bench, 49-18. l

I’ve been a pacer fan since I was a kid. I went to the games where they took the bulls to seven games. Only team to ever do it. All the Knicks bruising series. I got angry when they could have drafted Kobe Bryant but didn’t. I saw them lose to the lakers after finally making it. I’ve watched them get a good team after good team but never quite put it all together. I almost cried in frustration during the brawl bc I knew that was a championship team and they threw it away. I think now is the only moment I’ve admitted to myself they could actually do it. It’s been so long and so used to disappointment. But something is powering this team, I’ve never seen anything like it. They can actually do it. And NBA championship to Indiana. Wow

The Pacers were the only team ever to take the Bulls 7 games after 1991. The Pistons beat the Bulls in the playoffs 3 straight season from 1988 through 1990.

P.S. l agree, I think that the Pacers will win it all this year.

I saw them win an ABA title as a kid when my grandfather took me to the fairgrounds to watch them play. I would love to see an NBA title before I exit this dirt ball.

o

Those Pacers teams were great, as they won 3 ABA championships in 4 years between 1970 and 1973 ...... but similarly to the AFL champions in football between 1960 and 1965, they never got a shot at the NBA champions in any of those seasons. I don't think they would have beaten the 1971-72 Lakers, as they were one of the greatest teams of all time. That Lakers team went 69-13, and had what is still a record 33-game winning streak. But I do think that they would have given the Knicks a run for their money in 1970 and 1973.

The Pacers actually went to the ABA Finals 4 times in 5 years between 1969 and 1973, but they lost to Rick Barry's Oakland Oaks in 1969.

The ABA beat the NBA 79 times to 76 times in the 155 exhibition games that they played against each other ...... and unlike the Pro Bowl in the NFL, they played those games like they cared, and like it meant something to them.

Tonight, it's the opposite ...... the Pacers have 11 3-pointers heading into the 4th quarter, and the Thunder only have two 3-pointers ...... but like the Pacers in Game Three, the Thunder are still in the game in spite of this.

Will the Thunder be able to do what the Pacers did in the 4th quarter of Game Three ??? Stay tuned.

The Thunder turned the tables in Game Four ...... just like the Pacers in Game Three, they were outshot badly from 3-point range in the first 3 quarters, but in spite of that they were still only down by a few points heading into the 4th ...... and like the Pacers in Game Three, the Thunder jumped on that opportunity and came away with a W.

Pacers had an uncharacteristic meltdown. Won't happen again.

IndyNorm 06-16-2025 05:52 PM

First time on the board since the game Friday. What a bummer that was. Sure seemed like the Pacers were well on their way to Indy's first NBA championship, but now not so much .

Obviously a lot is being written and said about the 4th quarter, but IMO the final 2 minutes of the 3rd was just about as critical for OKC's comeback as anything that happened in the 4th. After going up 10 the Pacers went into hero ball mode for the rest of the 3rd, which between that and some missed FTs allowed OKC to get back to single digits to start the 4th.

Also, a question for those who watch the NBA regularly - is pushing off by the offensive player essentially allowed now (much like traveling, etc.)? Reason why I ask is SGA pushes off with his off hand or elbow on damn near every single drive he takes, and the only thing that ever gets called is on the defender.

Seems that is a normal move that is not called unless the refs decide to change the momentum of the game. I wish it were called more regularly.

(GAME FIVE)

After being down by as many as 17 in the 2nd quarter the Pacers cut the lead to 2 points in the 4th, but then fell apart soon afterwards ...... the lead ballooned back up to 15 points with less than 3 minutes to play, and the Thunder coasted to a 120-109 victory.

A whole different meaning to the sports term, "one and done."

Hopefully, our one and done will be followed by parades, trophy lifting and invitations to the White House! :)

Regardless of the outcome of Game 7, the Pacers will likely have thousands of fans greeting (and consoling) them when they return to Indianapolis for winning the Eastern Conference championship, and being one of the last 2 teams standings in the end.

They have 3 ABA championship banners (1969-70, 1971-72, and 1972-73) and one NBA Eastern Conference championship banner (1999-2000) already hanging in the rafters ...... another banner will adorn Gainbridge Fieldhouse when all is said and done.

It was a valiant try by the Pacers, but their turnovers proved too much to overcome in this winner-take-all Game 7 ...... they will have to settle for hanging another Eastern Conference Championship banner in the rafters of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, as they will take home the Silver Medal for the 2024-25 NBA season.
