2020 Draft Day 3 Discussion Thread

The Colts filled two offensive play maker spots yesterday and drafted some much needed safety depth to play either as their third safety or challenge Willis for SS once he is recovered from his knee injury; perhaps by October.

Colts front office obviously loves the Blackmon pick; let's just say that I think value was elsewhere (cough....TE....cough) and leave it at that.

The Colts pick 16th in round 4 and 3rd in round 5, there are some interesting guys still left on the board:

-- ALL the QBs are still hanging around after the top five went in rounds one and two. Fromm, Easton, Morgan, Gordon. They might start becoming pretty good value in the 4th and 5th rounds even if you don't think they could become starters in the league.

-- Lots of TEs still available like Harrison Bryant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Hunter Bryant and Brycen Hopkins. Might still be able to grab one of those guys in the 4th or 5th.

-- OG John Simpson out of Clemson is still on the board and I have zero idea why. He seems like a plug and play starter.

-- A couple of OTs still on the board like Prince Tega Wanogho, Saahdiq Charles, and Ben Bartch.

-- Some DEs also on the board like James Lynch, Jason Strowbridge, Trevis Gipson and Alton Robinson.

-- Heck, Gabriel Davis, Isaiah Hodgins and Antonio Gandy-Golden are still on the board at WR.

Lots of talent that can help us from day one to be had in the 4th and 5th rounds. Who do you like?

jasperhobbs 04-25-2020 07:50 AM

I think the colts have to go with an O-lineman and I like Ben Bartch

I would agree.....however.....

I just listened to Ballard's post day 2 press conference on Colts.com and the last question was about O-line depth. Ballard specifically mentioned Eldenkamp as interior depth and Clark as OT depth and was not concerned in the least about adding to it. Said that if there were guys there, sure but if not, then there was a lot of time before TC to add veteran free agents.

Seems to me that Ballard is not really that interested in adding O-line depth in the draft. It might have been a smoke screen but we will see.

Next year's draft must be when they address finding a replacement for Costanzo. Clark certainly is not the answer and left tackles usually are high draft choices.

Maniac 04-25-2020 08:30 AM

I don't see why they need TE at all. OL, DE, CB need to be addressed

Perhaps because we only have two on the roster with NFL play experience and that the Colts offense likes to be able to switch from 3 WR to 2 TE to force defenses into either changing personnel or staying in the wrong personnel group.

This year, my guess is that we will be adding quite a bit of split RB formations as well making the offense even more unpredictable now that we have a QB that can run that sort of thing.

Colt Classic 04-25-2020 08:49 AM

Just find another power forward ex-basketball player who doesn't get drafted to use for TE depth.

Lol, forgot about that signing! :)

Okay, fine. WR, DE, CB, perhaps O-line late. Plan for day 3.

I knew when they signed Burton that they weren’t drafting a tight end in the first 2 days.

BCN#1 04-25-2020 09:40 AM

At this point, I can't help think they get an OT to learn under Castanzo. There is one dude from Kansas... Hakeem Adeniji??? Seems like a fit.

Definitely think we need a solid EDGE also - can't have enough of them otherwise, I'd I go fishing in the WR pool once again. :)

They definitely need to add DL in this draft - especially at DT. I believe Autry, Day, and Stewart are all FAs after this year. That’s 3/4 of the expected rotation. They would technically still have Lewis, but he can’t be counted on for anything. DE is a little better with both Turray and Banogu under contract, but we know little about Banogu.

I really hope for two additions on the DL on day 3.

Oldcolt 04-25-2020 10:49 AM

for those of you worried that Taylor has to much wear on him

This is solely based on discussion here and other internet speculation, but I'd like to see us take James Morgan with one of our 6th rounders if he's still there. It does seem like we're pretty interested:

That, was well played, sir! Well played.

Washington trades LT Trent Williams to the 49ers for a 5th this year and a 3rd next year. Great trade for the 49ers.

They are going to be a tough out this year. That may be the best division in the league.

It doesn't matter who Niners get, Tampa Tom will have the Bucs in the Superbowl.

Perine to the Jests...and there's the usual commercial break while the Colts are on the clock. Maybe they'll announce the pick in 30 minutes.

Maniac 04-25-2020 12:52 PM

They have been on the clock forever

Interesting, must've liked the value this late. Surprised he wasn't taken Day 2. Still would've liked a OL or DL, but hopefully this will work out better.

6'6" damn

Colt Classic 04-25-2020 01:01 PM

Again, if NE wants Brissett the price is 2 first rounders. Anyone else, much cheaper.

Maniac 04-25-2020 01:02 PM

Brissett has to be gone now.

Not necessarily. I don't wanna have an unproven rookie starting games, if Rivers gets injured.

All you Chad Kelly lovers out there can resat assured he's gone though.

Big QB, big arm. Probably strongest arm in the class. Reads and manipulates defenses like Burrow and Tagavailoa. Doesn't have either of their accuracy or mobility. Tried to play hero ball too much and made bad decisions at times as a result. Needs a lot of film room work. Colts drafting him makes me feel much better about work ethic concerns that were out there.

Why? This will assuredly be a redshirt year for Eason. He needs to work his ass off in the film room to improve his decision making. He'd look like Ryan Leaf going out there right now, though I don't think he'd psychologically fold like Leaf did.

Exactly right, hopefully with our line the mobility won't be much of an issue, step up and throw it. Hopefully a year behind Rivers and Reich tutoring him his accuracy improves and it will all work out...:cool:

I would rather keep Kelly over Brissett. At least Kelly has upside. We know Brissett sucks.
