Leonard as DPOY

I hate to blatantly lift from another site, but they have an article on Leonard that mentions a stat that stuns me:

https://www.1070thefan.com/blogs/kev...-year-and-more

Quote:

Take a look at Leonard’s numbers through 11 weeks (10 games played for Leonard):

114 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 interception

Since 1996, no player in the NFL has achieved at least those numbers in a season. No one.

Leonard has done that in just 10 games, with an entire month of games remaining.

So compare the Nelson pick to the Leonard pick. Which is more / less valuable?

omahacolt 11-30-2018 09:36 AM

He won’t win dpoy. Hell he won’t win droy.

They will give it to that gay cowboys backer.

Leonard is obviously the more valuable pick. It's a lot harder to find value at 36 than 6.

It's kind of hard to argue against production that no other player has ever achieved.

Yea, agree with you. The cowboys have bigger market.

ChoppedWood 11-30-2018 04:22 PM

I called this a month or so ago on here- this dude is rapidly progressing toward the best defensive player in the NFL- he deserves to be considered for the award.

I hope you're wrong - it would be pretty surprising to me if they gave it to Vander Esch. If I'm not mistaken, the award is voted on by football writers, not fans, so maybe it's not a complete popularity contest. I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to Vander Esch, but his stats certainly don't match up with Leonard's. The guy who I keep seeing mentioned as Leonard's main competition is SD's Derwin James.

Vander Esch is playing lights out. But, it would be a severe injustice for him to win droy over Leonard. Mainly because Leonard has made far more impactful plays.

I agree.

Doesn’t mean it will work out like that

FatDT 11-30-2018 10:11 PM

Unfortunately some football writers are just as susceptible to popularity BS as anyone else. Leonard deserves it. I have no doubt LVE is good but Leonard’s rookie year has been historically good.

DrSpaceman 11-30-2018 11:26 PM

I don't care if he is defensive rookie of the year or defensive player of the year or sets any record

What I do care about is him playing 10+ years with the Colts and being the anchor to a superbowl winning defense

Whether he is better or more important that this or that player on some other team, who gives as a shit

He is an impact, literally game changing player on a defense that sorely needed just that. Good enough for me.

Just stay healthy and keep it up

Clearly.

Sadly I don't think that is how it really works for NFL awards.

Clearly at the end of the day that is what we all want. It is not an either or.

Chromeburn 12-01-2018 02:34 AM

The Cowboys media machine will be working overtime promoting him. But he didn’t even start the first five games.

I love the announcers the other night when they beat the Saints “wow Vander Esch tackles great in space. He never misses a tackle... well he missed several tackles last week, but he looks great and looks like he never misses a tackle.” ??? Wtf.

Oh and we will beat the Cowboys.

That game could be the decider. Let's see which one of these two excellent players has the better game.

Luck4Reich 12-01-2018 06:49 PM

I hope Nelson gets the chance to put Vander -bitch on his ass.

Phelanka7 12-18-2018 09:20 PM

Leonard was just snubbed from the Pro Bowl this year. Only Colts that made it on were Nelson and Ebron.

I can't even....

NFL fans have to be some of the stupidest motherfuckers in the world.

Players on the SB teams can't play anyway

Doing a quick scan, it appears the only rookies that made the Pro Bowl were 4 first rounders and undrafted Phillip Lindsay.

Pick 1.2 Saquon Barkley
Pick 1.4 Denzel Ward
Pick 1.6 Quenton Nelson
Pick 1.19 Derwin James
Undrafted Phillip Lindsay

Exactly. Depending on who goes, he might be an alternate.

Voosh 12-18-2018 10:14 PM

To hell with the Pro Bowl. The kid is DROY and I hope he helps us make the playoffs.

The only thing these awards mean is more ammo for their agents when negotiating the next contract.

No, I just didn't think you'd be so bold as to suggest that the Colts will be in the Super Bowl. I hope you're right, but there's a long, hard road ahead for that to be the case.

Why not? Suggestions like that are no problems. Guarantees and emphatic statements are not the same as this.

Oldcolt 12-19-2018 01:54 PM

If we make the playoffs I like our chances to take it all as much as the next team. My only caveat is that almost all our games would be on the road and that is tough for such a young team.

This offensive line makes anything possible
