Eagles added an extra coach to prepare for the Super Bowl - Vic Fangio:

The Eagles have gotten help from an unexpected place -- Vic Fangio signed a 2-week contract with Philly to help its offense prepare for KC's defense. Tomorrow, he'll join Miami as the Dolphins DC.

As the Eagles prepared for Super Bowl LVII, they had a little help from one of the NFL's top Xs and Os experts.

Sources say Vic Fangio, the soon-to-be Dolphins defensive coordinator, quietly signed a two-week contract with Philadelphia to assist its coaching staff as it prepares to face the Chiefs today. When his contract expires after the game, Fangio will officially join the Miami coaching staff.

As for the weeks leading up to today's game, sources say Fangio assisted the offense, not the defense. He's been involved with self-scouting and projects, helping Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen's unit as it gears up for Steve Spagnuolo's Chiefs defense.

Fangio has relationships all over the Eagles' staff -- not just with the defensive staff -- and those helped set up this arrangement. It's hard to imagine a better resource than the grizzled veteran who has seen it all.

There had been some talk of Fangio working as a consultant with Philly this season following his tenure as Broncos head coach from 2019-2021, but he opted to travel and take time away, instead.

When the regular season ended, Eagles coaches he's close with reached out to him to essentially say, "Do you want to go on this ride with us?" Fangio did, and soon afterward, he signed his contract.

Following Super Bowl LVII, he'll sign his three-year deal with the Dolphins that makes him the NFL's highest-paid coordinator, a contract that also includes an option for the fourth year.

I just hope these sorry ass refs don't have a hand in deciding this game.

CletusPyle 02-12-2023 10:06 PM

This is actually a pretty good game!

CletusPyle 02-12-2023 10:34 PM

KC takes the lead! 28-27….this one is going down to the wire!

CletusPyle 02-12-2023 11:11 PM

Pressure kick…I have a feeling he may miss this?

CletusPyle 02-12-2023 11:13 PM

I was wrong….he missed a FG earlier and almost missed that last extra point. Looks like the Eagles will need Devine intervention!

Well they did. Must be on the KC payroll b/c they fucked Philly with the worst call in SB history. Totally gave the game to KC. These refs should be fired. No question.

With 6 seconds left to play, the Eagles could have gotten a 10-yard out pattern to get closer for a Hail Mary attempt.

The Chiefs' defenders were giving them the cushion, the Eagles should have taken it ...... 6 seconds is enough time to get 8 or 9 yards on a quick out-pattern. And if they had done that, they would have been at their own 45-yardline, which would have been close enough for a Hail Mary attempt.

No way that should have been called, KC would still kick a FG but Philly would have had more time to tie or win. It was probably holding, but at that point in the game I would not have called it and I was for KC!

Overall, the Chiefs' defense got more overall stops than did the Eagles' defense.

Plus, one of the Chiefs' defensive stops was a "double-stop", because their defense scored a touchdown in the process.

The Eagles defense forced 2 punts in the first half, and 0 punts/stops in the 2nd half.

Plus, the Chiefs scored all TD's on offense, except when they intentionally took a knee to run time off the clock for that final field goal ...... the Eagles had to twice settle for field goals.

Agreed. It was ticky tack at most. It's an absolute travesty that the game ended b/c of the refs.

ChaosTheory 02-12-2023 11:33 PM

Fucking bruuuutal ticky-tack penalty to end the game in anticlimactic fashion. I had no dog in the fight, but that was a pretty entertaining game and the ending fucked it up.

Also, did Hurts slip on that Hail Mary duck he threw? That field was trash. How is that what you roll out for the fucking Super Bowl?

Agreed there as well. KC's D played much better than Philly's tonight. I thought Philly's pass rush would get to Mahomes more, but they didn't.

And speaking of field-goal attempts, I'll bet that the Chiefs' kicker is breathing a huge sigh of relief right about now ...... now he missed a very makeable 42-yard attempt early in the game.

I thought there was a very good chance he would choke on the game winner. His last extra point was barely inside the upright!

I really do not think that BS call affected the final outcome, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. At the very least it stopped the end of the game possibly being the eagles having a minute or so to try a last-ditch effort and make the whole thing more entertaining. It was still one of the more entertaining Superbowls that the Colts didn't win or the Patriots lose, so I am not upset.

There's no guarantee that call ultimately gave the game to the Chiefs, but it certainly could have. Assuming KC's FG kicker hits it Philly would have gotten the ball back w/ ~1:45 left on the clock. Plenty of time to drive for at least a tying FG if not a game winning TD. These refs deserve to be fired over making that call at that point in the championship game.

I hear you. I'm mostly talking about the anticlimactic ending to a good game. Annoying.

I would never blame a loss on refs because there's too many other factors. But as Norm said, the Eagles would've had 1:45 + a timeout only needing a field goal.

And this was a particularly weak penalty call.
