As I said in another thread, I don’t necessarily want big free agent signings, but I want to see an adequate attempt to address team needs. Kicking the can down the road or avoiding vets specifically to “save” snaps for young guys will piss me off. If Ballard does with SS what he did last year at WR I’ll be pissed. If he banks on Cain and a rookie to solve the hole at WR2 this year I’ll be pissed. If he doesn’t attempt to address pass rush from multiple fronts (draft and free agency) I’ll be pissed. I don’t want Brown or Bell. And I don’t need Collins. But to me there will be no excuse for failing to address the major holes on the roster.

Here we are being linked to CJ Mosley:

but so are a number of teams. But that's a signing I could get behind, perfect LB for this defense. Good zone defender, can read plays, and has been a tackling machine. Mosley and Leonard together would be killer.

There are an inordinate amount of 25 year old multiple Pro Bowlers in this free agent class, though.

49ers agreed to terms with LB Kwon Alexander, formerly of the Bucs, on a four-year, $54 million contract.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the deal contains $27 million guaranteed. At least as of right now, it makes Alexander the highest-paid inside linebacker in NFL history. They are eye-brow raising numbers for a player who not even the best linebacker available. 25-year-old (in August) Alexander is also coming off a torn ACL. He battled hamstring issues in 2017 and served a four-game suspension in 2015. Alexander is not an asset in coverage. We are frankly a bit baffled at the numbers. The 49ers are projecting a big step forward.

Colts so far this offseason has been a big bunch of quiet. Couple quiet signings. Couple quiet releases or nonsignings but nothing that rocked the boat. All this cap and no big name connections. No leaks is the most impressive thing about this staff.

6/100/50 because this market is stupid enough to pay Trey Flowers as well as J.J. Watt.

Let's hope there's anyone left tomorrow.

Want to go on record as hoping we do not 'win' free agency. Every year it seems the teams that do 'best' in free agency do 'worst' the season. I'm happy that this team has a plan and sticks to it. Don't do anything yet Ballard. Wait and be patient.

Maybe it's just me, but this doesn't seem like such an insane amount of money (relative term). If the Colts can get Humphries at <$10M then Ballard should jump on it and still be able to preach fiscal responsibility.

Telling note - Went through this whole thread, and none of the 2018 playoff teams have signed a free agent yet. It's only the cellar dwellers who are spending money at this early point.

I don't think $10MM for a slot receiver is good value, but let's see if Ballard agrees.
