If you are seriously considering keeping him for next season, you are not building confidence or loyalty with a comment like that! If they decide to keep him, they will wish they would had said Carson is our QB from the beginning. Because if they keep him, Wentz is just going to feel like they only kept him because there was no better option...the relationship with Wentz is being destroyed with these non committal comments !!!

They either know they are not keeping him and just won't say, or they are being very foolish with these comments that serve no purpose in my opinion, and will only hurt their relationship with Wentz in the future !!!

I understand what you are saying, but there is another side to that coin.

Different players react differently to the same method of criticism ...... Jimmy Johnson once pointed out that some players need a kick in the rear-end when they play badly, but that other players do not respond positively to that kind of thing. Those other players need an encouraging pat on the back, and the reassurance that they are capable of playing better and to not let a bad play (or a few bad plays) undermine their capabilities and their potential.

By some accounts, Wentz appears to be the kind of guy that is (at least somewhat) conceited and thinks that he is playing better than his critics assert that he is. His strong stance on not wanting to get vaccinated seems to (at least partly) exhibit that kind of attitude ...... so, perhaps he may be the kind of player that needs someone to point out his failures and to question his ability to come through in crunch time. Maybe he needs to have the challenge of "proving his doubters wrong" thrown in his face. And if you think about it, the Colts have very little to lose in taking the risk of treating him that way ...... after all, they are only stuck with him for one more year at the most, so it's not like they have to worry about him and his feelings long-term. So ultimately, even if he confronts Irsay, Ballard, and Reich because of their obvious lack of faith in him, they can simply say "Look man, if you don't like the way that we treated you in the press, go out and prove us all wrong by having a kick-ass season. You're still our starting quarterback, so our actions of keeping you here and keeping you on the field speak louder than any words of doubt that we put out there in the press in the off-season."

If Philly giving up on him and Irsay taking a chance on him can’t fire him up then I have zero faith in that. I would’ve felt better if he would’ve ended the season guns blazing going down swinging the last 2 games but he looked like a heartless, gutless, clueless, highly paid coward. Jags fans may have dressed up like clowns but the biggest one was playing QB for us that day

You want a qb that can win? Well you either suck and get a high pick or you spend a shit ton of $$$$ and draft picks to buy him. Sucking for a year kicks the can down the road and it doesnt guarantee you shit. The Colts need a QB now, so its either trading talent + cash + draft picks to get an established guy or a place in the draft where you get the guy you want right now.

Is there a qb who the Colts can buy right now? Make a run at Aaron Rodgers. Go buy that douche bag with the Texans. I bet they might pay the Colts to take him. The Colts need a QB NOW. Its risk reward, it always has been. You want a big reward, it will take a big risk. Would I trade an entire year of draft picks for Rickie Williams? Nope. For Peyton Manning? Hell yes.

It is going to take picks and cash to

A) move up in the draft, or
B) sign a free agent (see Bradys last contract) or
C) trade for a guy like Stafford

If there is another option, lets hear it.

I think we're getting our wires mixed up on what we're debating. I'm saying that I hope the Colts are able to trade Wentz instead of cut him b/c it would be better for the Colts. We'd not have to carry his salary as dead money against the cap and get something in return for him vs. having to take the cap hit and get nothing in return for him. This is undisputable. Now you could argue that it would be better to keep Wentz than trade him, which IMO we're better off long term trading him, but that's not what I've been saying.

I fully agree that if Ballard has the opportunity to bring in a top tier QB then he should do damn near whatever it takes to do so. We've seen what Wentz is, and if we want to get better than maybe make the playoffs if we don't collapse type team then we need to be better at QB.

Speaking of trading Wentz here's an Indystar article that speculates on what we could get for him:

I dont think a team is going to do the Colts a favor by taking Wentz off their hands with favorable terms.

Im taking the worse case possible. They cant dump Wentz on someone else and they dont trust his play. So that means spending what capital they have and solve the Qb situation while they have the O line and RB to make it work

Fair enough and I agree with you on those points, especially since the Jets drafted Wilson. Can't hurt to hope that Ballard can pull something off though.

I agree. Wentz shit the bed in Philly, got another chance with Reich and shit the bed again. What fucking coach out there can make Wentz any better? No fucking one, that's who. Wentz is who he is, a very physically talented individual, but he doesn't have a QB's brain. I was pro Wentz for the longest time, but soured on him toward the end. As far as spending the capital they have to solve the QB situation, it just isn't that fucking easy, there just isn't that many available good QB's around. I mean, you could take a chance with Trubisky, which is who I would rather have than fucking Wentz right now. Or take a chance and draft one of the college guys, but none of them inspire any confidence in being worth a shit.

The fact that they have no idea what the issue is tells me they are talking out their ass. If the Colts get rid of him it better be because he sucks as a player, not because he has some shitty personality

I don't know. It's a team sport not individual. If he is not embracing the team and his teammates he needs to go play golf or bowling where he can play alone.
For this organization Jeff George rings a bell on bad personality with all the talent in the world.

Maybe Irsay sees that same thing in Wentz. And doesn't want that mess again
