I've pointed out before that not only did the 2022 Colts beat Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs with a horrible offensive line, but the 2019 Colts also beat Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback.

While I find that rather interesting, I put no weight whatsoever on either of those wins ...... fluke wins are not uncommon in the NFL, and I sure as hell won't be counting on taking anything away from those games should the Colts meet the Chiefs in the post-season.

If the Colts do play and beat the Chiefs in the playoffs, it will have absolutely nothing to do with those 2 victories in 2019 and 2022.

He makes every throw, read defenses as good as anyone, moves well in the pocket (doesn't get sacked) and is in complete sync with his head coach. He is the best QB in the league right now and only prejudices from asshole New York based writers keep people for admitting it. It won't change until Feb when he wins the next and his first Super Bowl

I don't think one half of one season with outstanding stats in your 7th year as a normally not so prolific QB qualifies as an elite QB. Don't get me wrong, he's performing better than anyone expected, but it is just a half season of great work, and it's been against mostly weak teams. Most of us on this board, predicted nothing but a shitty season regardless of whether DJ or AR was the starting QB. Now, some folks here are thinking we're the best team in the NFL. Not me, I'd like nothing better than to be proven wrong, but I feel there are tough times ahead.

He is playing elite right now and has all season. And it has nothing to do with his stats, it has to do with how he is playing the position. Mistake free football is huge. He is elite mentally, that won't change. I also think we are as good as anyone right now and will be much better when Ward gets back. It could all fall apart and if it does I'll be bitching like everyone else but to me this doesn't look at all like a smoke and mirrors kind of thing.

I keep waiting for the balloon to pop but it doesn’t. Even the biggest homer of a Colts fan wouldn’t have guessed we’d be here. I would like to take a little credit, I canceled the NFL package before the season which I’ve had for 30 years. Don’t worry I won’t buy any midseason special.

(vs. CHIEFS, 11/23)

I'm going to go out on a limb and assert that Daniel Jones is the real deal, in spite of his sub-par 4th quarter and overtime against the Chiefs.

As a Colts fan, my 2 biggest fears are ......

1) l Daniel Jones getting injured.

2) l The Kansas City Chiefs.

In my rat's ass of an opinion, the Chiefs are the biggest obstacle to the Colts making a deep playoff run and/or the Colts advancing to the Super Bowl. Presuming that the Colts do make the playoffs, I hope that they would not have to play the Chiefs until the AFC Championship game (if at all.)

Jones fractured his left fibula while playing against the Chiefs, and has not been as effective since, starting with the 4th quarter of that game in western Missouri ...... I said that I was afraid of the Chiefs, but not for that reason (I was afraid of them primarily because of the Patrick Mahomes factor.)

Today against the Jaguars, Jones injured his right Achilles tendon, and is probably out for the season ...... he may have continued to play in sub-par fashion if he had continued playing on the fractured left fibula, anyway.

Now, it's going to be up to Riley Leonard and the rest of the team to try to salvage this quickly sinking 2025 season.

I think the best plan for the Colts would be to:

A. Sign Daniel Jones to a team friendly 3-year contract with almost zero signing bonus, a smallish 1st year ($15m), a good sized 2nd year ($35m) and a huge 3rd year ($50m) giving both sides the flexibility to renegoiate as desired. Obviously, the Colts can get out of it cheaply after years 1 or 2 if needed and could also renegoiate the 3rd year into an extension. Jones get the money if he can show that he was not just a one hit wonder.

B. Retain Riley Leonard. I am not sold on him but I would like to see if he can make a 2nd year jump as a backup.

C-1. If the right guy is there, draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round of the 2026 draft. Hopefully, someone who you can hope can develop into a starter.
C-2. If the right guy is not there, retain Anthony Richardson and hope that he can actually stay healthy and/or develop.

I like C-1 better than C-2 because I don't think AR is good at football but you have to have someone as QB3.....
