@mlombardiNFL
With the cap going down, the places Matthew Stafford will play next year are not a many as might suspect. will be at least 3-4. He will redo his deal after the trade, but the new team will need 20 million of cap room to take on his current deal. The cap will impact this trade

I’d still rather have someone on a rookie deal

No. They happen all the time. Teams reach an agreement but don't officially do
the paper work until the business year starts.

Free agency (almost unheard of for a qb who is great and has several productive years to hit free agency-we may have a long wait), draft (we are not bad enough to get a highly rated qb and moving up in the draft cost a fortune in most instances-more than a trade for Stafford) or trade (which is rare itself). Even if we give up two firsts it would be less than a probable trade up in the draft to get a top qb. I don't see any other choice, get the guy.

It all depends on whether Ballard and Reich feel like Stafford is worth what Detroit is going to want. And that’s definitely not a given.

Ballard isn’t averse to giving up a lot if he believes the player is worth it, as we saw with Buckner.

But I agree-if it’s at all feasible, they have to do it.

Trade for a guy on a rookie deal or.... draft your guy in the first round

I was uncomfortable, not opposed - just uncomfortable, with Ballard pulling the trigger on Buckner and it's proven to be solid.

I am uncomfortable with trading a lot of draft value to Detroit.

If Ballard was to do this, I think he's proven he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I get that same uneasy feeling I had with Buckner. I think I'm okay with the first round pick, but anything after that...

Dude, you need to post more. You always bring the quality.

Plus, I can not see that Shatner Rocket Man picture enough.

Panthers actually only have just over $7M in cap space. Poorly run team.

They are heavy red. But QB is a spot you make an exception. And stafford a contract is pretty reasonable QB wise.

And TWO promising pass rushers.
