Philadelphia has agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first, league sources tell @mortreport and me

If Carson Wentz’s playtime is at or above 75% next season, the conditional 2022 second-round pick would become a first-round pick, per sources. The second-round pick also.could become a first if Wentz plays at least 70 percent of the plays and the Colts go to the playoffs.

Ballard got fleeced !!

I also like how we can get out after two years if need be. If he does return to form the salaries/cap hits dont look too bad and we have a QB signed for next 4 years. should be interesting to watch!

If spotrac is accurate we can cut him after 2021 with no dead cap.

Ballard did as well as could be expected locking up a potential top 10 QB, for a possible 4 yrs @ $25mm per.

No real downside to this trade, particularly because the potential 1st round pick isn't from this years draft. Our team should be built after this years draft.

Unless Wentz sucks, then you’re looking for a QB again next year, without a first round pick! IMO this sucks!!

I’m not sold on Wentz, but the trade itself is pretty solid. It escalates if Wentz stays healthy.

The best thing is, I don't have to read anymore about Dammy praising the greatness of Mac Jones.

This is a good gamble. Every QB available has issues, otherwise they would not be a available. We know him better than any of the other choices and he seems to really want to be here. We have control over whether Philadelphia gets a one or a two. If he is our long term solution we got a steal. If he flames out we can recover from losing a first/third (or a second/third obviously) and his cap hit isn’t going to hamstring us. On top of that Ballards evaluation of free agents (guys already in the league) has been excellent. If I had to put money on it Wentz will be a steal. Now let’s find a LT

Honestly though, what better option did they have? They weren’t getting a guy with Wentz’s ceiling at 21 and, if they did draft someone, he probably wouldn’t be ready next year anyway.

Watson, Rodgers, Prescott, that was never gonna happen. It sucks that they missed out on Stafford, but I’m glad they didn’t get him at the price the Rams did.

Who else is out there who would be any better?

I agree it’s not ideal, I just don’t think they had much of a shot at doing better.

If he sucks then we bench him and keep our 1st rounder. The bigger risk is if he's just ok and we finish ~.500 b/c then he's probably starting for the whole year and we lose mid 1st rounder.

2019 / 607 att / 388 comp / 63.9% / 4,039 yards / 27 TD / 7 INT / 6.7 YPA / 93.1 QBR
2018 / 401 att / 279 comp / 69.6% / 3,074 yards / 21 TD / 7 INT / 7.7 YPA / 102.2 QBR
2017 / 440 att / 265 comp / 60.2% / 3,296 yards / 33 TD / 7 INT / 7.5 YPA / 101.9 QBR

Had Wentz been on the block last off-season, you would all be singing Ballard's praises about how he fleeced the Iggles by getting a great young QB for only a 3rd and next year 1st round pick. Arguably a top 5 QB under the age of 30.

Granted, his 2020 campaign was pretty bad (okay, borderline horrific) and this is very much a "what have you done for me recently" type league (and fan base) but prior to 2020, he was very much in "stud" territory.

However, if Reich and Ballard believe they can get him back to the above level of play, then I have faith in them. They have not had many misses in their time with the Colts.

Holy shit, way to go Ballard. That's a great move. Now to hope Wentz is fixable, which I'm much more confident in based on this move.
