I disagree. I’m not certain what the analytics say but I’d bet they favor going for it. The issue was the play call. The team has had great success with Jacoby handling those situations. He stresses the D much more than Rivers. The issue was the personnel grouping used and the play call, not the decision.

Also, the metrics back me up.

It was a bad call.

There are 7 minutes left at that point. Even if Houston scores and ties it, there will likely be some time left to get into fg range.

If Houston scored after the 4th down stop, there’s probably time left again, only now you’re BEHIND and you HAVE to score instead of potentially playing for overtime if you get into a bad spot.

That was a TERRIBLE call. Kick the field goal every time there.

Colts are lucky that didn’t come back to bite them in the ass.

Frank is addicted to danger.

I’m honestly surprised by that. Although I’m also surprised that the same article says the Colts were still favorites to win with Houston sitting at first and goal.

I still like the call based on how the game was progressing. I wanted no part of OT with a 3rd string LT and facing Watt and Watson. Maybe it is still a lack of faith in Rivers under pressure.

1) Reich had no idea that if he failed we would get a safety
2) Safety put us up 6, so a TD beats us. If we just kicked the FG and put us up 7, then they are forced to score a TD and either tie the game or go for two and risk losing. That is a FAR better scenario than being up 4 or 6 after the safety. Not kicking the FG was fucking stupid.

It was a mistake. That’s all the insight I want to hear

Was that the only 4th down try they made in that game?

o

No.

They went for it on 4th and 4 in the 2nd quarter, and Philip Rivers completed a 39-yard TD pass to a wide-open Jonathan Taylor.

Agree, but at least we know he agrees

Sounds like he questions the play call, but not the decision to go for it. He said it was a clear go per their analytics. Said he wanted to put the game away because he didn’t want to face Watson on a 2 pt conversion (which he expected if they scored a TD). He also said you have to count the 4th and 4 call that went for a TD. Basically they netted a point by being aggressive and you can’t just complain when they don’t make it.
