I am pretty sure that was a catch, and I think the reason it wasn't overturned is because the shit camera angles they had didn't show the other side of the ball and if it hit the ground or not. It shouldn't matter, since it never moved from his control, but I am guessing that if they had a shot from behind the QB, it would have been convincing.
