I don't think that either Saturday or Ryan will be back, especially Saturday ...... Eccentric Jim is smart enough to base his decisions for the future on the entire season, and not just on one game. And Big Jim knows that the elephant in the room is the offensive line, not the quarterback and/or the head coach.
This season, Ryan has showed that he is capable of playing well when he gets good blocking, or even average blocking (which has very seldom happened this season.) If the offensive line can somehow revert back to being one of the best in the NFL, as they were in 2020 when they were protecting the incredibly immobile and statuesque Philip Rivers, that would be much more important than whether or not Ryan comes back to finish his 2-year contract next year, or even if Jeff Saturday comes back as the head coach. Remember, even the sub-par Jim Caldwell was smart enough to simply get out of Peyton Manning's way for the entire 2009 season and let him lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance. Somewhat similarly, getting our offensive line to somehow go back to being excellent instead of terrible is much more important than whether or not Saturday stays or goes as the head coach ...... and I'm not necessarily making the argument that Ryan and Saturday should come back next year, simply that the offensive line issue is much more vital.
