Hoping we can get at least 2 of with our 3 2nd round picks. I expect he will reach with a pick too.

Deandre Baker CB Georgia
Dremont Jones DT Ohio St.
Taylor Rapp S Washington

Ballard telegraphed it. He said that the talent is pretty level from the middle of the first round thru the end of the second. He thinks the player he gets at 46 will be as good as the player at 26 and he gets another second round pick, albeit next year. I don't get it so that makes me feel better. The fact that so many people seem slightly apoplectic about who we are missing out on also makes me think this is a good thing. Most likely a good move.

IndyNorm 04-25-2019 11:37 PM

Blah

Not only Sweat but the top CBs, Murphy and Williams, are still on the board. Seems like we should have gotten way more than just next year's 2nd rounder to move down 20 spots. I think Ballard had someone inked in and when he and Marquis Brown were both gone he panicked.

smitty46953 04-25-2019 11:40 PM

Seahawks select DE LJ Collier

I doubt it was panic, he has hinted strongly he was going to trade down, I just don't think he got as good a trade partner as he wanted. Doesn't seem like the value was as good as it should be, but not really that far off when considering the partner.

Mr. Session 04-25-2019 11:41 PM

I get it, but damn.

I would have liked to see Washington's first round pick next year. Maybe in exchange for another pick of ours in a later round this year. r/colts is riding Ballards dick for this one, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but what are the odds he gets another "All Pro" player in the second?

Even Grigson had a "money" draft, once.

smitty46953 04-25-2019 11:41 PM

Seahawks trade: Pick 30

Giants trade: Pick 37, Pick 132, Pick 142.

I think Pick 89 and next year's third rounder should be enough to pick early in Round 3 this year. Obviously if the move up isn't as far, it would be less.

Maybe talk to the Jets again about a trade.

Luck4Reich 04-25-2019 11:43 PM

There goes Baker

Luck4Reich 04-25-2019 11:46 PM

I get it that Ballard didnt feel the value was there at 26... but there are guys coming off the board that can help the Colts a lot and kinda.pissing.me.off!

I dunno. The Redskins are pretty fuckin stupid. Seems like we should have gotten next year's 1st instead of their 2nd or this year's 3rd/4th thrown in along with the what we got.

Luck4Reich 04-25-2019 11:48 PM

Good player bit of a reach though

Next years fist seems delusional. A 4th would be more in line.

Maybe, but I've seen smarter FO do dumber shit. For example: Polian traded a 1st rounder for a 2nd rounder to draft Tony Ugoh.

Either way, seems like we should have gotten more.

I'm not totally upset. I just thought he could have got more for the pick.

FWIW, the draft card that people use suggests it's a good trade, though I don't know how the card handles future picks (ie is the 450 points for a mid second rounder worth the same next year as opposed to this year).

That second pick tomorrow will be a first round talent, and he'll have two more picks to go with it in the 2nd. Hopefully at least two of them turn out to be key players for the Colts in the next few years.

1 early 2nd for what was expected to be a late first. We traded a Late first for a mid second and what what can be expected to be a mid to early 2nd. Seems not that far apart.

Ballard loves his second rounders!

Sounds like we might be waiting awhile tomorrow night too:

Chris Ballard ended his press conference tonight by saying, "We might not be done. There's gonna be a lot of interest in that 34th pick."

Wouldn’t surprise me. On paper, I’m upset the Colts didn’t get at least another 4th in this draft, but the trade market was deflated this year. I’m not going to quibble too much over a 4th round pick.

And anyone upset about passing on Sweat, you can GTFOH with those hot takes. You have no idea what those medicals looked like.

Lots of good options available on Day 2. Will be fun to see what they do.

I agree. Bit more would have been nice, but FFS a Redskins 2nd will be damn near a 1st.

Don't like the trade with Sweat on the board, but apparently Ballard didn't like Sweat as much as dropping down 20 spots to only get a 2020 2nd. That said, Ballard has earned trust at this point, and I'm sure he'll get some good players in the building. I think it's going to be a long time before the Colts get another shot at a talent like Sweat, though.

If you listened to his presser he was asked about Sweat. He made a face and said I'm not going to get into that. But he is a good. Good player. So my take is its medicals.

I'd take a chance on medicals to get a 6'6" 260 DE who runs a 4.41 40, has an 85" wingspan and nearly 36" arms, and has some developed pass rush moves. For me, he was the 3rd best player in the draft from a pure talent perspective (behind Quinnen Williams and Ed Oliver). I hope the 46th pick and the 2020 2nd turn out to be worth it.

The entire league has the same medical info and a team was willing to give up a pick to move up to get him.

And it's for next year. More picks, afforable talent, starting to look more like a Pats draft.

It's the home town INDY doctors, they bring in the doctors working on their residency from IU Med to do all those tests and exams. The Colts doctors are from Sports Med (IU Med) who work the combine, doing the exams.

One of the reason the combine is in Indy, they have two big hospitals who are willing to give the NFL a day to do all this tests. And it's all downtown, close to the stadium.

Yes, but it was Washington

I was not surprised to see Ballard trade down seeing all the pass rushers and LBers going off the board. Figure that might happen.

He found Darius Leonard in the second last year. Will wait and see how it plays out. Not worried.

He had arguably the best DE in the draft fall into his lap. All the pass rushers weren't gone. Ultimately all I care about is getting quality talent on the roster, but it's difficult to reconcile that with the Colts passing on one of the best talents in this draft was passed on just to pick up a 2nd round pick next year. Honestly this move would make much more sense if it was their 1 next year. Passing on a player that should've gone top 10 in this draft on talent alone makes a lot more sense if you're locking in a top 15 pick in next year's draft.

DrSpaceman 04-26-2019 09:24 AM

A top prospect with a potential congenital heart defect that could kill him anytime.

A bit risky, don't blame them for passing
