Simon has been injured. Great, give him a per game bonus that if he plays, he gets paid. Protects the team from "Bob Sanderism" but gives the player something to look forward to. We would have paid less to Arthur Jones over the past 2 years if this clause had been in his contract. I also like "unlikely to be earned" bonuses. It made no financial difference to Erik Walden to get 42 tackles and 11 sacks in 2016 versus 42 tackles and 3 sacks in 2015. However, would Walden have tried harder earlier than his contract year if there had been money to chase? Will it motivate Simon? We will see. I have a cousin who ownes a debt collection company. He has different pay systems for his workers ranging from 100% salary to 100% commission and different splits inbetween. Same job, different income models to his employees. Folks pick the one that brings them security. However, he will tell you the ones that take less guarantee and more based on their own performance are his best employees. Is Bennie Logan still available?

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports there is a "very good chance" free agent NT Dontari Poe signs a one-year, prove-it deal.

Prince Amukamara signs with Bears, per @JordanRaanan. |

no but he must be trying to get teams interested |

He is not that effective, IMO. Cheers. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

Sounds like Hightower is down to NE, TN, and SF

Odrick might be worth a look

One more on John Simon.
According ro PFF, Simon had 24 QB pressures on only 133 pass rush snaps in 2016. Almost 20% is an excellent number. Cheers, Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |
Anyone else not enamored with Dontari Poe? On a one-year deal, sure, maybe. But is there anything special about his game?
I really think people mistake his being on the KC defense or his size as being a good NT. |

If we sign him, okay but I want a rookie selected as well. If we retain Perry, he can be depth for both 0-tech and 5-tech. Cheers, Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

Something I heard from Colts headquarters this week: Ballard is all about setting standards. This is about the long term @HolderStephen Robinson was due a $1 million roster bonus on Tuesday. Decision had to be made now one way or the other as a result. |

CB in 1st or 2nd round is my guess.

Not sure I understand some of these moves but oh well. Not a big loss
|
Kind of surprised Robinson was released. He wasn't great, but unless a deal with a better CB is incoming, it seems kind of dumb to release him and hope the draft fixes everything.

keep chopping wood
Ballard seems to be chopping the fuck out of some Grigson wood atleast

Whatever the deal, Chris Ballard is a gangsta with a capital G. Ruthless. @HolderStephen 4m4 minutes ago I wonder if there was any frustration on Colts' part last yr when Vontae Davis consistently played hurt while Robinson couldn't push thru. @HolderStephen 4m4 minutes ago No one has said that. That's just me talking. But the guy played seven games and rarely practiced. And they paid him $5 million. |
cutting Robinson will save us 2.5 M in cap space also won't it Sherck

Robinson was a sub-standard starter. Allen was overpaid. Doyle rocks. Simon appears to be a solid signing at a reasonable price. Mingo? Yeah, I don't see the point of that. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |
So call me crazy, but the Jax D looks pretty good on paper with Boye/Ramsey duo, added Calais Campbell to an already young, up and coming squad.
Houston freed up cap space and might land Romo. Titans getting better. AFC South is getting better ...except the Colts that is. |

DeAndre Levy is another name that just hit the market that might fit that bill, though he's not the caliber of Timmons. |

Then again the Colts have more or less had the worst luck/history ever with DTs/NTs, so when Corey Simon is your high-water mark ... well, beggars can't be choosers. |

Romo is old, and injury prone, I hope the Texans gamble their future on him. See above re: the Jaguars for the Titans. |

Timmons yes Levy no IMO |

If they do land romo, he only has 1-2 years left even if he doesnt get hurt, which he will. We arent poised to really contend this year so if he stays healthy and they do well, then whatever. I am not to worried it. |
